From our students
“As a CPE student under the supervision of Rev. Powell, I experienced her as an exceptional CPE Educator whose guidance deeply shaped my growth in ministry. Rev. Powell created a learning environment grounded in safety, respect, and authentic reflection. She invited each of us to bring our full humanity, our faith, questions, fears, and strengths, into the learning space, cultivating a community where we could grow without judgment.
Educator Powell’s teaching was insightful, spiritually rich, and rooted in deep pastoral wisdom. She asked powerful questions that encouraged honest self-examination, helping me understand not only my pastoral interventions but also the emotions and beliefs underlying them. Her facilitation of verbatims, clinical reflections, and group process demonstrated both clarity and compassion, modeling the very presence she taught us to embody.
What truly set Educator Powell apart was her ability to see the best in her students and draw it out with grace. She honored our diverse backgrounds and spiritual identities, offering encouragement while also challenging us to stretch beyond our comfort zones. Through her mentorship, I became more self-aware, confident, and grounded in my pastoral identity.
Learning under Educator Powell was a transformative experience. Her leadership, integrity, and authenticity left an indelible imprint on my ministry, shaping how I show up for patients, families, and colleagues today. I am profoundly grateful for her investment in my formation and the lasting impact she has had on my journey as a chaplain.”
